Tact Fail

...not nearly on the same scale as AmazonFail; this just made me want to sigh, and thump my head against the wall. (Posting this on the account most of the local SF club doesn't know about.)

This past Saturday I went to my first meeting this year of the local SF/F club. The previous week I had just auditioned for this year's parody play for the local convention. After the meeting, while I was talking to a friend from the club, she said she was very happy that I had gotten cast in the role I had.

Then she had to spoil it by saying why she was glad. Because she thought I could do a good job with the part? Because I carry a tune well? *

No.

She was SO glad I'd gotten that part, because I had (or could make) the type of costume pieces appropriate for the character.

... ... ... *sigh*

Just have to try to remember, it's fandom - and fans are not always the most tactful of people. Lord knows I'm not, sometimes. One of these times around, though, I'd really like to get one of the wacky, scenery-chewing sort of roles.

(* I can carry a tune well fairly well, and know it. My first year with a major part in one of these plays, I nailed every note in the tune that 90% of the cast could not get quite right. The last one I was in, they gave me a kind of torchy song and afterwards an acquaintance told me "I knew you could sing, but I didn't know you could sing like THAT!")
